About this work

Description

Contents: Pars I. De sapone communi (pp. 1-94); II. De sapone chymico (pp. 95-210). Appendix. De analogiis saponum (pp. 211-222). A student's notes of lectures: on p. 1 the lecturer refers to the beginning of a new 'Cursus'. At the end he speaks of beginning a new 'Cursus' 'nach den Ferien'. It is possible that the lecturer may have been Jacob Reinbold Spielmann (1722-1783), professor of chemistry, botany and medicine at Strassburg University in 1759, who is known to have written a short tract on the history of soap-making, and these notes may have been taken at his lectures on materia medica. [Cf. Partington 'History of Chemistry', 1961, Vol. II, pp. 689, 690: Ferguson 'Bibliotheca chemica', Vol. II, pp. 393, 394.]
