Biographical note

Sir John Smith Knox Boyd (1891-1981) was a bacteriologist and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps 1914-1946. He then became director of the Wellcome Laboratories of Tropical Medicine until 1955; after this he became a Wellcome trustee and served until 1966. In addition, he became deputy chairman of the Trust in 1965 and acted as a consultant until 1968.
