I woke up gay.

Following a stroke, Chris Birch believes that he woke up gay. Photographs of him before his accident show a completely different man. He used to be nineteen stone and worked in a bank, now he's a slim hairdresser. He remembers little about his life before the stroke and since his transformation he has lost a lot of close relationships with his family, particularly his mother. Many people find it hard to believe that he wasn't gay before the stroke, including Chris's partner. He is invited to undergo tests to determine whether he was born gay or straight with a leading expert on sexual orientation and he meets up with an ex-girlfriend to look through some old photographs. Chris goes to meet Tommy McHugh who became obsessed with art after suffering from a stroke.
