    For Christ Church, Mr. Vere Bayne allowed me to use his lists. For Corpus Christi, I have used the MS. list of scholars and fellows drawn up from the original admission books by Robert Hegg, and revised by William Fulman. For Exeter, I have used Mr. Boase’s published ‘ Registrum Collegii Exoniensis/ cited as ‘ Boase.’ For Jesus College, I find that the College Register affords no help till about 1613. For Lincoln, I have gone through the original College Registers. For Magdalen, I have used Dr. Bloxam’s published f Register of S. Mary Magdalene College/ cited as ‘ Blox/ For Merton, I have used the list in Dr. Brodrick’s ‘ Memorials of Merton College,’ cited as ‘ Brod.’ For New College, I have used the admirable MS. list of fellows and scholars drawn up from the College books by the present Warden. For Oriel, I have, with Mr. C. L. Shadwell’s help, gone through the original College Register. For Queen’s, I have used an old MS. list of fellows, appa- rently of date towards the beginning of the seventeenth century, and probably extracted from the College books. For S. John’s, I have used a MS. list of fellows, drawn up by William Holmes, President 1728-1748. For Trinity, I have used the MS. list of fellows and scholars, drawn up by Ralph Kettell, President 1599-1643. For University College, there seems to be no register or list of fellows till quite recent times. For the Halls, Broadgates, Glocester, Hart, Magdalen, New Inn, S. Alban’s, S. Edmund, S. Mary, there seem to be no independent lists in existence. In the case of degrees taken by persons whose earlier degrees are found in Vol. I of the Register, edited by Mr. Boase, I have given the reference (in the usual form, Reg. I) in all instances where it is not covered by the reference to Part II of the present volume. Other references, e.g. to Wood’s ‘ Athenae’ and ‘ Fasti might readily have been added here ; but I have intentionally omitted them, since the scope of the present volume extends only to unpublished documents.
