About this work

This file series was located in the office of Colin Sizer during his period as Curator of the Wellcome Institute Museum, 1969-1977, and remained there until the disposal of the museum collection was completed in the mid-1980s, when it was transferred to the archive. It is probable that Sizer created the dossiers by extracting material from other file series in order to provide a reference tool to about the major collections acquired by the Museum. Roughly half the files were in WIHM envelopes which may indicate that they were created at this date while many of those files which pre-dated the Institute may have had further material added to them.

Other additions, particularly of summary sheets, were made [by Richard de Peyer] at the time of the disposal of the Museum's collections.

Many of the files include the original correspondence about the acquisition of the material. A variety of other material may also be included such as inventories, accession lists, published catalogues, research notes, publications, photographs and general correspondence.
