About this work

Description

Correspondence about various property matters.

Includes a private memorandum (22 October, 1930) concerning the proposed Wellcome Building. "A conference was held at No. 6 Gloucester Gate yesterday afternoon, Dr Wellcome, Mr Septimus Warwick and Mr Garnham being present." Refers to plans for the new building being examined and found generally satisfactory. "On the suggestion of Dr Wenyon it was decided to make the Lecture Hall 6-ft higher by lowering the floor and to place a Gallery at one end. Mr Garnham raised an objection to going too low owing to the risk of flooding in this district after storms, and a note was made of this point by Mr Warwick." In the scheme, "a space of 15-ft is left between the new building and Unity House at the Euston Road end so as to be able to light tthe building on all four sides".

Includes copy Agreement (7 July, 1931) between The University of London and The Wellcome Foundation Ltd as to raising the height of buildings in Gower Place, St Pancras. With plan to scale attached. Also, draft document of the same, with amendations by Markby Stewart & Wadesons.
