About this work
Description
The Government Relations series contains material related to Watson’s role as member of the President’s Scientific Advisory Committee (PSAC) (1962-1965), the National Cancer Advisory Board (1972-1973), and the Division of Cancer Cause and Prevention’s Board of Scientific Counselors (DCCP) (1978-1982). His files from PSAC pertain to insect control, specifically the cotton boll weevil, and its affect on United States agriculture. Later files document Watson’s role as a policy advisor and leader in the field of cancer research. In the early 1970s he also reviewed research proposals for the National Science Foundation. The series primarily contains correspondence, reports, and meeting information. It also includes a number of USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) publications, which were used as reference materials during his time on the President’s Scientific Advisory Committee. The series is arranged chronologically.
