    RODENT CONTROL No of all types of property in district 4,608 Total number of properties inspected for rats and mice 419 Number found infested with (a) rats 244 (b) mice 57 Following retirement of the Council’s rodent operative in October, control was performed by a contractor, Messrs. South Beds. Pest Control. A free service is provided for control of vermin and insects in domestic premises, and for baiting of sewers and Council properties. No service is now offered to business premises or farms. NOISE ABATEMENT ACT. 1960 Among several noise problems encountered during the year, that causing most general complaint was a factory assembling boiler plate, situated only some sixty feet from the nearest dwelling- houses. Following interviews with the firm it was agreed to appoint an acoustical expert who made a fair independent survey. Recommend¬ ations were made which if followed should reduce the noise consid erably, although elimination will not be possible owing to the nature of the industry and its location. 26.
