About this work

Description

A magazine insert consisting of a comical poem (probably early 1880s) about the black Bishop Q of Wangaloo who is visited by the white Bishop Brown of Monkeytown and becomes upset "because he wasn't white". Bishop Brown gives him 2 cakes of Pears' Soap which washes off his black and he is loved by all again, the moral being that "cleanliness and godliness go ever hand in hand".
