Biographical note
In 1950 SHF was appointed Consultant Physician to the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals. The Maudsley Hospital was a centre for post-graduate instruction in psychiatry for the Institute of Psychiatry. SHF participated in group techniques in the Out-Patient Psychotherapy Department, mostly fulfilling a supervisory role rather than taking groups himself, and training postgraduate doctors. On his retirement in 1963 SHF was appointed for one year to do research into networks of patients and in 1964 he was appointed Physician Emeritus to the Joint Hospitals.
