Biographical note

The US Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources was originally established in 1869 as the Committee on Education, which then changed to the Committee on Education and Labor in 1870. It then changed to the Committee on Labor and Public Welfare in 1947, and then to the Committee on Human Resources in 1977. It became the Committee on Labor and Human Resources in 1979. Its name changed again, to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, in 1999.
