About this work

Description

Oliver Foot, executive director of Orbis, describes the work of this medical charity which takes eye surgery to the developing world by means of a hospital plane. His own role is that of fundraiser, a demanding and increasingly difficult role which involves him in continual, worldwide travel in search of patrons. The plane acts both as operating theatre and teaching hospital and is the oldest DC8 still flying. Eye conditions examined and treated as the film follows the plane to Albania, the Sudan and Burma include cataracts, detached retina, corneal blindness and trachoma.
