Friedrich Wilhelm, the "Great Elector", who died on 9 May 1688, is portrayed enthroned in the centre, while on either side are mourners and allegorical figures. Above left, Fame trumpets his name. Bottom right, History (?) holds a roundel inscribed "Tegitur non obscuratur" (it is covered, it is not obscured) around a depiction of a cloud passing in front of the sun.
