Bible. N.T. Luke 2.25-39. The Virgin holds a basket containing two turtledoves, an offering to the Temple on the simultaneous occasion of her purification and the presentation of Jesus. Two men behind Simeon hold candles (this scene is celebrated in the calendar as Candlemas)
