Fragments of the Biography of his Father, James Sheridan Knowles [1784-1862]. Author's holograph MS. This collection contains incomplete drafts of the first and the last chapters (57 ll., 51 ll.), 73 ll. of another chapter, and 50 ll. of miscellaneous notes and memoranda.

Biographical note
J. S. Knowles studied medicine under Dr. Robert Willan [1757-1812], and obtained his M.D. from Aberdeen University in 1806. He was appointed Resident Vaccinator to the Royal Jennerian Society in London. In a short time he abandoned his medical career, and became an actor and dramatist [see the Dictionary of National Biography].
