About this work

Description

Roll of the British and Irish Knights Hospitallers of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Collected by myself from the Public Records of England. Those from 1305 extracted from the 'Libri Bullarum' now at Malta, were sent me by my old friend Fr. John James Watts, K.M. Compiler's holograph MS. Illustrated with pen-drawn shields, only a few of which have been completed. The work is unfinished. There is an inserted Index (8 ll.), and a 'Roll of Knights of St. John in England since the revival of the Langue' (8 ll. (last bl.)), which ends 22/2/1881: this has been compiled by Frederick Arthur Heygate Lambert [1857-1930]. There are numerous inserted slips, and 4 A.l.s. to Waterton: (1-2) Watts (John James) A.l.s. dated 19/11/1868 (4 pp.), 3/3/1873 (4 pp.). (3) Buckler (Charles Alban) A.l.s. dated 31/7/1874 (2 pp.). (4) Salvin (Francis Henry) [1817-1904] A.l.s. dated 11/1/1869 (4 pp.). Pasted on to the first fly-leaf is a reprint from the 'Rivista del Collegio Araldico di Roma', 1906, of an article by Nino Fairplay entitled 'Gran Priorato dell'Ordine di San Giovanni di Gerusalemo in Inghilterra' (14 pp. 8vo. 25 × 16 cm.). Produced in Walton.
