Amanda Cook comes from Richmond in North Yorkshire. She works for her city council in quite a central role and is also involved in a theatre group outside of her work. Her idea for the plinth is to read letters from different points in British history starting in 1805 with a letter written by Nelson through to a letter from a soldier who died recently in Afghanistan to his family. She will read through the letters and at the end of her hour write a letter, although she doesn't know who to yet. She will also encourage people on the ground to write a letter to somebody. She feels that letters enable you to understand more about people, what they are feeling when they are writing it and relates it to today's readiness to text and email rather than write letters and a concern of losing history becasue of this.
