About this work

Description

This documentary is about Zahra Aboutalib, a woman born in Moncao, who carried a calcified baby in her stomach for 46 years. Her story is pieced together here including accounts from Zahra and her family and the doctors who discovered the calcified child when Zahra was 75-years-old. Zahra had turned up at hospital in extreme pain and when they scanned her they discovered an ectopic abdominal pregnancy which had miraculously grown to full term, surgeons managed to remove this 'stone baby' from her abdomen - we see detailed footage of the calcified fetus. In England we hear from Jane and Mark Ingram who, while expecting twins, discovered there was a third child involved, but the third child was ectopic, growing alongside a ruptured fallopian tube in her abdominal cavity. Like Zahra's pregnancy, the fetus had attached itself to her abdominal organs and was growing. To save both her life and the life of her unborn twins, Jane had to undergo surgery never before performed in the UK - miraculously they all survived and the programme ends showing the triplets aged 6 years old.
