About this work

Description

Primary pulmonary tuberculosis This is a postmortem specimen of the lung, lower trachea and lymph nodes from a 2-year-old child who was HIV-positive. It shows a primary complex of pulmonary tuberculosis, a Ghon focus with regional lymph node involvement. The initial pulmonary lesion or Ghon focus is the small white area in the apex of the left lung. The lymph nodes at the carina and along the lower part of the trachea are grossly enlarged and necrotic. In this case, they have obstructed the bronchi and caused asphyxia.
