Biographical note

Olinthus Gilbert Gregory was a mathematician of humble birth. He taught mathematics at Cambridge and was mathematical master of Woolwich in 1802. He completed a MA in Aberdeen in 1805 and a LL.D in 1808. He was Hutton's successor at Woolwich from 1807- 1838. He was one of the projecters of London University: published treatises on astronomy and letters on Christian evidences in 1811, and lives of John Mason Good and Robert Hall.
