About this work
Description
Saint Julia or Julie: unidentified by the cataloguer. Portrayed as a nun, wearing a brown habit with grey hood, but presumably cannot be Saint Julie Billiart, who was not canonised until 1969. Possibly one of the saints called Julienne or Giuliana, three of whom were nuns (not necessarily in the right order): Julienne de Montreuil sur Mer (Benedictine), Julienne du Mont Cornillon (Cistercian), and Julienne (Giuliana) Falconieri (Servite)--Réau, loc. cit.
