About this work

Description

Leaflet advertising "a series of very special nourishing preparations with estrogen content (8, 000 international units of Oestrone per ounce of cream) to help the skin stay young and supple" offsetting the effects of the body's glandular system producing less natural estrogen after the age of 35 which would otherwise result in drier, wrinkled skin. It was issued by Gala of London, based in the Burlington Arcade on London's Piccadilly, probably in the 1930s. A hormone cream was available for the face and neck and a lotion for the hands. Printed in black on white paper, the front has a photograph of a stylish young woman wearing a heavy earring and necklace with a dark sheet being rolled back from her face, presumably revealing a flawless complexion. Probably issued in the 1930s. Gala of London became part of Komal Manufacturing Chemists Ltd. In 1968 and is still producing cosmetics today.
