'Dr. Gray, ' • ’ ’ ' ' IF the poor Man my Patient be Trepatfd, I beg the Favour, expeft and Infill upon it, that I be prefent at the Operation, which lhall be no charge to Him, from Sir, April 14th, Thurfday leyen in Your very Humble Servant, the morning, Canterbury• C. S 1 R, IN anfwer to your Requell and expectation, together with your fnfifiirg * upon being prelent upon the Perfon’s being Trepan* d, I hope you don't think to meet with any oppofition on that fide from me , but as there arole yefterday Rich an extremity of Paffion between you and Mr. C * * d (whom I believe to be a very good and dexterous Surgeon) I believe he will not perform the Operation if you be Prefent, by. realon he fo pofitively alferted, he would never have any thing to do where you was concern’d : I will tell him this Morning of your demands, and will give you a farther anfwer, if we find there is a neceffity for the Trepan. It is a great Misfortune, where there can be no dilpute without Heat and Paffion, elpecially where it concerns the Life of Man. As to my infilling upon Bleeding yefter- day, whilR we we re both prelent,, and your deferring it fix Hours, 1 in no wile lee why Convulfions Ihould arife more upon the Time I in fit fled upon, than upon-the Time you propofed. Ilpoke my fincere Opinion, and Hill affirm, the Pulle was Full and REGVLAR and Strong: both Surgeons alfert the fame j you laid your commands on Mr. Bottom, not to Bleed, when you went away, tho’ you acquielc’d in being dilmils’d. Surely you will grant I had as much Authority to bid him bleed, as you had to bid him not. Mr. Botton did Bleed the Patient as toon as you went, and no Convulfions lucceeded there¬ upon as you apprehended. Lall Night Mr. C* * d Blooded him again by my order *, his Pulle being Still Full, and STILL remaining FULL AFTER ALL THIS. The Patient no doubt was in the utmofl degree of danger when you left him, and I am well datisfied of the Realbnableneis of my proceed:ngs afterwards, as to the Succels I am ftill afraid of Death.
