M. K. Bradby Mental Hospital Sketches

The file contains an 204 page unbound (the cardboard cover is separate) copy of "Metal Hospital Sketches" by Miss M.K. Bradby "With the Author's compliments" on the title page. There is no date on the manuscript, but Bradby says in the introduction that she is 73, was admitted to the hospital in the winter of 1944-1945, and that the discoveries of M. Pasteur were 100 years ago from the point written.

The 7 page introduction explains the premise "to give the general reader an idea of what life in a lunatic asylum is like to-day, with a view to helping on reforms which are badly needed" and an introduction to the author.

The contents include:

"Mental Hospital Sketches. Some Patients." - 88 pages made up of 16 individual, personal sketches, or short stories, letters, reflections etc to or about some of Bradby's fellow patients.

"Mental Hospital Sketches. Some Nurses." - 24 pages made up of 3 sketches about some of the nurses.

"Reflections on "Some Patients and Some Nurses."

"A Side Light on the Moscow Trials." - Bradby uses this chapter to highlight some resemblances between the Russian prisoners' experiences and her own.

"Day Dream. A walk around the Hospital, Improved, with Nurse Boodle." - anothe lengthier sketch, written in the style of a script.

"Appendix I. Five measures for producting a submissive attitude (in vogue in the Hospital)"

"Appendix II. Formula for addressing patients on admission."

"Appendix III. Mental hospital prayers for private use."
