Description

Letter from Moncrieff, describing an incident at Hudson's Bay in 1877 when he witnessed a young Indian boy tracing a picture with the edge of his knife, to impress it into his memory so that he could carve it into wood at a later time.

Attached to the letter is a pencil sketch depicting a man and cattle, annotated by Galton "Bushman, Camera Treida, Copies of the sheet (by Col Moncrieff) in Christie Collection".
