Containing Six Sheets of Letter-Press, and a Head of the Author engraved by Collyer, of the History of England, from the Invasion of Julius Caesar to the Revolution in 1688. By David Hume, Esq; With the Author's last Corrections and Improvements. Printed for T. Cadell, in the Strand; and sold by T. Longman, No. 39, Paternoster-Row. Conditions. I. The Work will make Eight Volumes in Octavo, handsomely printed on a large Letter and on a Medium Paper. II. Each Number will contain Five or more Sheets, so that the whole may not exceed Forty-Eight Numbers, at One Shilling each. III. In the course of the Work will be given a series of Portraits of the different Sovereigns of England from the Conquest to the Revolution, engraved from original Pictures by Hall, Sherwin, Heath, Collyer, &c. &c. and ornamented with new emblematical Designs by Stothard. IV. In the course of publication will be given an Account of the Life of the Author written by Himself, and a copious Index. V. Most of the Plates are already finished, and Specimens of the Print, Paper, and Engravings, may be seen at the Publisher's. - In order to form a complete History of England from the Invasion of Julius Caesar to the Death of George the Second, the Proprietors intend to publish, immediately after Mr. Hume's History is completed, in Weekly Numbers, Dr. Smollett's History from the Revolution to the Death of George the Second; and that the Paper, Print, and Portraits shall in every respect correspond with the above Work.
