Biographical note
Project description:This award is for a project enabling 13–16-year-olds to find out about the real science behind topics such as cloning and genetics by reading fiction written for them. The project team produces, publishes and trials a 35 000-word story with 500 pupils in maintained London schools. (Their teachers will have attended a two-day course based at a Science Learning Centre to help them promote scientific understanding and literacy.) The trialling allows a redraft and the production of 3500 copies in a final version. Class sets are made available free of charge to teachers who attend a course on using science stories.
