About this work

Description

This is a black and white, silent German film about cancer (krebs). The opening titles tell us: 'Herausgegeben von der Filmstelle des Deutschen Hygiene-Museums, Dresden in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Verlag wissenschaftlicher Filme Berlin.' We see people suffering from various kinds of common cancers of the time - tongue cancer, breast cancer and skin cancers. We see the effects on their bodies these cancers have as well as how treatment can help them. Animated diagrams show that rates of cancer in England and Germany has doubled in the preceding century. The film encourages people over 45 to regularly visit their doctor, particularly if they suspect they are unwell.
