About this work

Description

The man is standing on a plinth wearing just a fig leaf over his genitals, with an open hand and the other holding a scroll or spear handle. An unidentified competitor in a male beauty pageant or bodybuilding competition. He is posed as a classical statue on a plinth, and is wearing Greco-Roman sandals. The fig-leaf has been added. Typical of the kind of explicitly sexual imagery that became associated with Paris in the 1920s and 1930s
