The author qualified M.D. in 1872 at Saint Bartholomew's Hospital, and was later physician to the Westminster Hospital where he was also registrar. He was elected F.R.C.P. in 1881 and was President of the Medical Society of London in 1903-4. [Cf. B.M.J., 1929, i, pp. 271, 272.]
