Notes

Interview with Fiona Winning conducted by Michelle Owoo. A visual artist who also works in the education department of a prison, Winning wanted to stretch and reaffirm her practice as an artist through participating in One and Other. She discusses the use of art in prison and its importance in inspiring and empowering prisoners. Winning also discusses the Koestler Trust which provides support to prisoners who want to pursue art whilst incarcerated in prison. She lives in a rural area in the South-West but describes it has being too isolated, and would like to move to a slightly more urban environment in order to become more engaged with an artistic community. Her idea was to make a structure on the plinth using cardboard and tape. Additionally, she talks about the difficulties of day-to-day life having made her slightly lazy in regards to her arts, mainly due to lack of space and a reliance on a conventional source of income.
