On flyleaf at front is given, for the years 1843-1846, tabulated information about amounts of gas consumed, dimensions and locations of tanks, depth of water in tanks, list of wells and comments on their water supply Journal has weekly entries for House Expenses (meat, eggs, butter, poultry, fish, wages, farm, etc, and other provisions under the heading of Housekeeping. Interspersed are details of farm stock transactions, detailed sundries (payments for specified equipment, services, various items), wages and half year salaries (staff names given); and quarterly totalled amounts paid for patients, and for patients' board (patients' names given) At the beginning of this volume, the stock on hand in the House and on the Farm is valued and this is process is repeated at the end of each financial year (31 March); also at the end of the financial year, a list of annuities (persons named) and other end of year calculations and accounts are entered. From 1847 the same kinds of information are grouped under headings: House Expenses; Farm and Garden; Extra Expenses; Wages; Furniture; etc On page 425, for 23 November 1847, a wages list is given which not only names waged staff but allots them their positions (eg centre attendants, housemaids etc). In 1847 and 1848 the names and amounts of subscribers are given The years 1850-1853 are actually entered into a smaller volume which has been pasted into the back of the larger one. Page 107 of this also indicates staff positions, and the year 1852 contains list of named donors and donations All entries are keyed to the General Ledger folio numbers of their respective accounts Volume is marked '34' on spine
