About this work
Description
In 1950 Bowlby was World Health Organisation Consultant in Mental Health and studied the effect of orphanhood and the separation of children from their families in Europe and the USA. The report was published both by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a monograph, Maternal Care and Mental Health, and in a Penguin edition, Child Care and the Growth of Love. For these works see Sections K.1-2. From 1953 to 1956 he was involved with the Research Study Group on Psychobiological Development of the Child which convened annually in Geneva. Among the members were Piaget, Lorenz and Margaret Mead.
A few files (D.4/7-10) relating to his early work for WHO were found in Acc 813
