Myers, Walter (1872-1901)

Clinical and post mortem notes on cases of yellow fever. Pará (now Belém), Brazil. Holograph notes, some in pencil (the last dated 16 January [1901]), forming part of Myers' work on the aetiology, pathology, and treatment of yellow fever for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. An abstract of the resulting interim report of the expedition by his colleague Herbert E. Durham appeared in The Lancet, 1901, i, 572. A clinical report of Myers' illness with a temperature chart 16-19 January is inserted.

Myers died of yellow fever at the Hospital Domingos Freire, Pará, on 20 January. His publications, primarily on cobra venom, are listed at p. 487 of his obituary notices in the Journal of Pathology and Bacteriology, 1901, 7, 481-488; a modern appreciation of this scientist of unusual promise appears in Diepgen (1960), pp. 90-92.
