About this work

Also known as

Pink magnolia soulangeana

Description

"This vibrantly beautiful collection of 31 pink magnolia soulangeana paintings was created by the artist whilst undergoing treatment for prostrate cancer in the UK during the world-wide Coronavirus pandemic (2020). The book is intended as a personal mini-altar for daily reflection and contemplation: a vertical standing book to be looked at daily during reflective, mindful moments. A proof copy of the book was used by the artist to soothe and create mindful, calming sensations of nature whilst in hospital undergoing brachytherapy cancer treatment. Included in the preface is the artist's deeply personal, spiritual and psychological poem T-13, which describes the experience of being in a cancer ward and contrasts the inner personal existential hopes, loves, desires and longings for the natural world with the psychic and practical fears of undergoing cancer treatment. The book is the artist's healing palette to a world in shut down and melt down as the Coronavirus pandemic 2020 (ongoing) rampages. By focusing on the paintings, the viewer can calm the brain waves, transcending into a meditative, healing and beauteous understanding of the natural world."--Provided by artist.
