About this work

Description

Documentary film about sickle cell disease, focusing on the experience of those living with the condition, the stigmatisation that they have experienced and the perception of sickle cell disease as a 'black' illness. The film features a model who discusses the impact of living with sickle cell on her work and relationships, and an artist who draws on imagery and experience of sickle cell in his work, and how these intersect with perceptions of race and disability. Made as part of the Ceddo Film and Video Workshop Documentary Film Making Winter School, 1990. Film starts after 00:01:30.
