About this work

Description

Prescription-book of Evans, the Dublin Apothecary: written up mainly by Denis Hughes and Lucas Wall. From 28 August 1802 to 18 May 1803. Inside the upper cover are scribblings by several compilers of the MS. Lucas Wall writes 'Hunc librum, annuente summo numine initiavit Lucas Wall'. Below 'Mentiris, ego ipse incepi scribere in hoc. Liberatus ero post tredecim menses ab hac die Augusti 29, 1802. Denis Hughes'. At the end of the entries for 1802, he writes 'Finis A.D. 1802. Laus Deo Omnipotenti. Dionysius Hughes'. This establishment appears to have been patronized by a very distinguished clientèle, including the Archbishop of Dublin, Cashel, and Tuam, the Lord Mayor, and numerous members of the Irish peerage and aristocracy. Produced in Dublin.
