Biographical note

Originally from Luxembourg, Thyrion was practising as an apothecary in Metz by 1747. In 1765 he was elected to membership of the Société Royale des Sciences et Arts de Metz, and gave courses of lectures in Chemistry with the society's support until 1769. In 1780 he was summoned to Versailles to work on revision of the official hospital formulary, before being appointed inspector of hospital pharmacies in Brittany. The following year he was appointed chief apothecary of the military hospital at Metz, from which post he appears to have been ejected in 1791.
