Bashibazouks (Turkish başıbozuk, or delibaş, literally "damaged head", meaning "free headed", "leaderless", "disorderly") were irregular soldiers of the Ottoman army. Their spinning represents the universe in which everything from atoms to the solar system and even the circulatory system of the body turn. Their hands (right hand facing upwards and left hand facing downwards) represent that they transfer what they take from God to the people without any appropriation. This is not a dance show, it is a sort of worship. Generally it is done on Monday and Thursday evenings in Mevlewi lodges. Image 13.5 x 19 cm,
