About this work

Description

Additions and amendments to his edition of 'Praxis chymiatrica' by Johann Hartmann [1568-1631], his father: in Latin. Author's holograph MS. Originally paginated by double-column of which pp. 1-4, 29-36, 69-72, 77-80, 97-100 are wanting. Some of the entries are illustrated by small pen-drawn human and other figures. That on p. 83, associated with 'Vitriolum Hermaphroditicum', and another on the 'Venereum Paracelsi specificum', have been defaced. This MS. is tentatively assigned to G. E. Hartmann on account of the several references in the text to 'Praxis chymiatrica nostrae editionis' (p. 17, etc.). On p. 22 of this MS. there is mention of a purgative pill which the compiler of the MS. gave to his son in 1614 'filio meo Jacobo dedi Anno 1614'. The latest date in the text is 1629 on p. 26.
