About this work

Description

Inventory of an Apothecary's shop in the town of Tonneins, in the Aquitaine region of France. This was compiled on 19 February 1801 (1 Ventose an 9 de la Republique) to facilitate the sale of the shop as a going concern. The inventory includes lists of stock, quantities and values. The first 9 pages cover "drogues simples" (raw ingredients), followed by 5 and a half pages of "compositions" (medicines made from more than one ingredient), and 2 pages of "vaisseaux et ustanicilles" (vessels, tools and other implements). The total value of these items is included at the end of the section.

The final two pages consist of the contract of sale, signed by the seller Vital Duran and the purchaser Bernard Menon on 13 December 1804 (21 Nivose an 12).

Loose papers tucked inside: two receipts for 591 livres, 6 sols, 6 deniers, from 1 December 1804 (9 Nivose an 12), and 591 livres, 6 sols, 5 deniers, from 12 December 1805 (21 Frimaire an 13). Both of these are payments towards the total cost of 3547 livres,19 sols, 4 deniers, and include details of future payments and interest charged.
