About this work

Description

Documentary showing how Zaire coped with the 1995 outbreak of Ebola disease. Emergency quarantine measures, burial procedures, contact tracing and nursing procedures are followed in detail. The virus was identified from a sample sent to the Centres for Disease Control (U.S.A.) who subsequently sent an international team of scientists to Zaire in an attempt to trace the source of the virus. The film shows how the Ebola outbreak halted normal life in Zaire and includes film clips from the 1976 and 1989 outbreaks in Yambuco and in an animal holding station in Virginia, U.S.A. (the latter being the subject of the documentary "The Plague Monkeys".
