About this work

Description

According to the lettering, the Roman altar was formerly owned by Sig. Antonio Boni, then passed to England. The tazza was found at Ostia by Sig. [Gavin presumably] Hamilton. The sepulchral chest was found outside Porta San Pancrazio in the foundations of the Villa Corsini. It has a Latin inscription from a mother to a deceased daughter or vice versa: the base is guarded by gryphons
