About this work

Description

David Crepaz-Keay (Mental health Media) and Dr. Robert Perks (British Library Advisory Group member) introduce clips from 50 lifestory interviews with people who were held in British mental asylums between 1925-1985. Interviewers describe how they went about their work. Witnesses talk about aspects of life in the asylums: admission procedures, institutionalisation, fear, lack of information about treatments given, lasting friendships made there, the challenge of outwitting staff and the difficulties of relocating themselves when discharged.
