About this work

Description

A guest house for guests of the Begum of Bhopal. Fourteen people, consisting of two men, a boy, ten women and a baby held by one of the women. Three European women seated in the front row are identified on the verso as "Auntie B", "M.C.M.", and "Mother" (guests?). Others identified are "Miss Wesley, S.A.S." ("compounder" crossed out), "Renee" and "Miss Roach matron". The Indians are not identified by name. All around is a profusion of flowers in flowerpots. Behind is the bungalow, of rusticated masonry with trefoil openings between the arches of the ground floor
