Notes

Most of the plates appear to have been taken from J.P.B.'s 'Traité historique des plantes qui croissent dans la Lorraine' (Nancy, 1762-70 or 1772, see Nissen 292). The artists include P.L. Cor, A.J. Defehrt, M.G. François, Mme Pinard, C. Fessard, Y.D. Collin, L. Fontaine. There are 33 plates by Louis Tessier (engr. Chevilet) probably from his 'Livre de principes de fleurs', Paris, Widow Chereau, ca. 1700 (Hunt 612), some repeated in different states. There are also 9 original coloured drawings, unsigned. On fly-leaf MS. title 'Recueil de plantes colorées sur gravure en l'année 1776'.
