Home-work. During the year seventy-one visits of inspection were made to the homes of outworkers residing in the District; all the premises were found to be in a satisfactory condition. PETROLEUM INSTALLATIONS I During the year 167 visits were paid to the ninety-three premises licensed for the storage of petroleum spirit, petroleum mixtures and carbide of calcium. No serious breaches of licence ([conditions were observed. I SMOKE ABATEMENT Uxbridge is a residential area and there are relatively few I boiler installations in the District. This fact tends to emphasise any unusual emission of smoke, and periodically complaints are received concerning what is regarded by the public as a smoke nuisance. A total of thirty-six timed observations were made during j the year and on only one occasion smoke was observed to be ■ emitted in such quantity as to be a nuisance. i For the purpose of recording smoke observations the standard f of measurement used is that laid down by the Ministry of Health
