Biographical note

Allbutt, Sir (Thomas) Clifford (1836-1925), physician, born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire. In 1860, he achieved a first-class degree in the natural sciences tripos at Cambridge University. He then studied medicine at St George's Hospital, London, and taking the Cambridge MB degree in 1861. In 1861, he was a consulting physician in Leeds. In 1889, he was a commissioner in lunacy in London. From 1892 onwards, he was professor of physics at Cambridge University. He died suddenly in 1925.
