About this work

Description

Watercolour drawing of a right mammary gland, showing well-marked Paget's disease of the nipple. The surface of the nipple is ulcerated, and is covered by a slough, while the areola is red and inflamed, presenting the usual appearances of the so-called 'eczema'. The woman was 63 years of age. The breast was removed by operation, as it was also the seat of scirrhous carcinoma.
