About this work

Description

According to Réau (loc. cit.), the remains of Saint Irene of Constantinople were transferred from Agia Sophia in Constantinople to the church of Sainte Irène des Figuiers, beyond the Golden Horn, in 552, i.e. before the existence of a Turkish emperor called Mahomet. Could this be a different irene?
